The PSOE will request explanations for the "inhumane state" of the center for migrant minors of the Casa del Mar in Arrecife after the Immigration Section of the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has received a complaint for "child neglect" against the entity Fundación Samu for the state in which the tutored migrant minors who are staying at the Casa del Mar in Arrecife in Lanzarote are and the deficiencies of the services and facilities.
The spokesperson and councilor of the Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote has described as "terrifying" the unsanitary state of the facilities in which a total of 55 migrant minors were housed, "also doubling its capacity, since the center is prepared to receive less than half of the minors who inhabited the space."
"The complaint details unacceptable issues of unsanitary conditions and situations that make the stay in the space dangerous, such as loose cables or broken windows. According to the complaining organization, there were episodes of alleged threats and situations of violence by some members of the staff to the minors, in addition to not exercising basic issues in protection and shelter such as offering basic support or care for their physical and mental health," González pointed out.
"The Government of the Canary Islands should have closed the center"
The socialist councilor has stated that "explanations must be given for these terrible conditions and why the General Directorate of General Protection for Children has not closed the center despite having been informed more than a month ago of the deficiencies of this reception resource. The Government of the Canary Islands said that it would dismantle the space in 15 days and has not taken any measures."
"These conditions represent the management of the Canarian Coalition and the Popular Party, the same parties that refuse to implement humanitarian care resources in Lanzarote but prefer to have boys and girls in these terrible conditions," he concluded.
