The Socialist Party (PSOE) announces this Thursday in a press release that it will ask the Teguise government, formed by the Canarian Coalition (CC), the Popular Party (PP) and the former VOX councilor, about the "lockdown" of the historic sports court “El Hoyo” in the noble, royal and illustrious Villa de Teguise.
This statement is made by the socialists after verifying the closure, with police seal included, that "this sports facility located in the heart of what was the island's capital suffers; and after numerous attempts to correct the abandonment it has been suffering for years."
“It will not be for lack of initiatives or times that we have expressed the need to act on this facility to bring it up to the level of its tradition and history and guarantee its optimal state of conservation and safety, all rejected by the Teguise government, determined not to let itself be helped by the main opposition party”, says Tana Reyes, socialist councilor.
“We already demanded it repeatedly in the previous term, with the eternal triple e as an answer, `we are working on it´, which translated into more deterioration”, says Reyes.
“In this one, -continues the mayor- at the end of 2023 we proposed to the current government, which continues to be headed by CC, with the accompaniment of PP and the former VOX councilor, the integral rehabilitation of the facility, a proposal that they rejected, despite the increasingly urgent need to act on the facility”.
“We even proposed to develop a master plan for sports facilities in the municipality to plan, project and quantify the overall improvement of the municipality's sports facilities, which was also voted against by the Teguise government”, recalls the councilor.
“All this, given the poor condition of numerous courts, such as El Hoyo itself, several in Costa Teguise, the lamentable situation of the one in Teseguite, the eternal unfulfilled promises about the sports spaces in Guatiza; or the essential replacement of surfaces as abrasive as those suffered by the courts of Las Caletas, made of asphalt, or that of La Graciosa, made of sandpaper grass”, laments Tana Reyes.
“However, none of the initiatives was accepted by a government that does not let itself be helped, and what is worse, does not reverse the negative dynamic suffered by municipal management, whether when talking about the abandonment suffered by numerous sports facilities, or in other issues that we have denounced from the firm and constructive opposition that we develop. For this reason, continuing in this line, we will return in the next plenary session to inquire about the situation of this sports facility”, concludes Tana Reyes.
