The Socialist Party (PSOE) of Teguise, through a press release, has **assessed this Wednesday the year 2025** which is coming to an end, in which they give a "clear failing grade" to the scarce management carried out by the government formed by Coalición Canaria (CC), Partido Popular (PP), and the former VOX councilor.
In this regard, for the socialists, "lack of ambition and continuity" have marked this 2025 that the local government dispatched "without news of the great challenges that Teguise and La Graciosa must address to regain the leadership of other times. Thus, it is not surprising that routine has taken over the day-to-day of a municipality that is not advancing as its more than 24,000 citizens deserve," says Marcos Bergaz, socialist spokesperson"With the aggravating factor that they also refuse to be helped by massively rejecting the more than one hundred positive initiatives we have presented since the beginning of the term, a 'modus operandi' that they have not abandoned in this last year," highlights Bergaz, who points to the socialist proposals made in matters such as housing, planning, cleaning, education, or sports facilities, among others."However," laments the socialist leader, "there's no way, they reject them with the excuse of 'we're working on it' or 'no for the sake of no,' when many come from groups or neighbors who convey their concerns to us to bring them to the plenary session in the exercise of our useful and constructive opposition work."“And we won’t say that the government of CC, PP, and the former VOX councilor does nothing, but rather too little for what Teguise and La Graciosa need, such as leaving challenges like the update of the General Plan, the eternal Special Plan for the Historic Site of La Villa, the essential modernization of Costa Teguise, the beautification of the set of towns and hamlets, the transfer of land for housing, or the improvement of the City Council’s own functioning to be more efficient and faster in responding to citizen claims, in the trunk of memories,” Bergaz emphasizes"This meager and uninspired baggage, not only in 2025 but after more than two and a half years in government, reaffirms the need for a change in methods and substance, for which the citizenry already opted in 2023 by clearly penalizing – Bergaz recalls – the management of the government led by Coalición Canaria, which, however, maintained the mayoralty with the complicity of Partido Popular (PP) and VOX after a legitimate pact that has not served the municipality's interests well."
As proof of this, the socialists warn of "the worrying decline in democratic spirit, and it pains us to say it, with capricious breaches of plenary agreements, the refusal to appear to explain matters of utmost interest such as the water crisis, or not respecting the schedule for holding the Corporation's own plenary sessions".
To conclude, Marcos Bergaz conveys a hopeful message for the new year: "We hope that 2026 will be better and live up to the expectations of the municipality's citizens, without distinction of colors or affiliations. Therefore, as the main party in the Corporation, we will insist on our useful opposition, with an outstretched hand to the government to address the municipality's challenges, but also with firmness to demand overcoming routine in management and behaviors far from the required democratic spirit."
