The PSOE of Tinajo criticizes this Sunday in a press release the complicit silence of mayor Jesús Machín (CC) regarding the proposal for a renewable acceleration zone signed by his party colleague and president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort (CC), and the Minister of Ecological Transition, Mariano H. Zapata (PP).

A proposal that foresees reserving 3,100 hectares of land, between suitable and conditioned, in Lanzarote for the establishment of wind farms and photovoltaic plants, with the municipality of Tinajo being one of the most affected as emerges from the maps recently published by the Canarian Government.

Thus, for example, large areas of land have been defined in La Santa, with hundreds of square meters affecting agricultural lowlands, from Tinajo and El Cuchillo towards La Santa, “without mayor Jesús Machín having raised his voice in defense of the landscape, environmental and agricultural values of these lands,” states Begoña Hernández.

“The most worrying thing is that he neither defends the territory of Tinajo, nor allows himself to be helped, as we must remember that he rejected a socialist initiative aimed at stopping this absurdity, a proposal presented to the plenary session, in the month of November, shortly after Betancort and Zapata signed this absurdity acceleration zone which today the president of the Cabildo disavows”, recalls the socialist leader.

Begoña Hernández announces that “given the certain risk to the landscape and environment of our municipality, we not only raise our voice but will present a new initiative to the plenary session”.

The councilwoman concludes with a clear message: “we will not allow this absurdity, of course we are in favor of renewables, but not like this, we hope that the mayor and his local government see the light and support our motion to stop the ZAR until it is consistent with all the municipalities on the island”.
