The PSOE of Tinajo has condemned with absolute forcefulness the "inadmissible" declarations of the mayor, Jesús Machín (Coalición Canaria), who during the last municipal plenary session publicly recognized that he orders to lodge aggressors of gender violence in hotels to avoid their arrest.
During his intervention, Machín indicated: “When there is some conflict of gender violence, the police call me and say: Suso, we have a problem. Either this man is sought to be left to this woman or he has to be arrested. There are children involved. I tell them: ‘Nothing, well, as we have done other times, go to the hotel. Some people have one night, others have four. Until a solution is found".
For the party in the opposition, these statements "are not a slip: they are a public confession of institutional negligence in the face of gender violence." In a press release, the political formation reveals "an improvised, dangerous and deeply insensitive management that puts the lives of women at risk."
“What the mayor has described is not a solution: it is an outrage. Lodging an aggressor in a hotel at the expense of public funds, while minimizing the suffering of the victims, is a sign of institutional complicity with gender violence”, declared councilor Begoña Hernández.
In addition, the PSOE of Tinajo has demanded explanations about the use of public funds to pay for hotel stays that, according to the party, appear in the extrajudicial recognition of credit, "without any type of transparency or legal justification."
“Who authorized those invoices? What protocol was followed? Where are the technical reports that support that decision? The citizens deserve answers, not dangerous improvisations”, added Begoña.
From the socialist group, "an urgent review of the municipal action protocols in cases of gender violence" has been requested, as well as a clear accountability on the use of public resources. “Gender violence is not fought with occurrences or favors. It is fought with responsibility, with well-managed resources and with a real commitment. And that is what is missing today in this City Council".
