The PSOE of Tinajo denounces the loss of 42,797.24 euros granted by the Cabildo of Lanzarote for the project of the calisthenics park of La Santa. The socialist spokesperson in the City Council, Begoña Hernández, holds Jesús Machín (Coalición Canaria) responsible for a management that has ended with the approval of the full refund of the subsidy, despite the fact that the consistory had received the money and had an extension of the deadline to carry out the action.

"The calisthenics park of La Santa was among his electoral promises. He had the commitment to the neighbors, he had the financing and he had time to execute it. What there has not been is management at the height. Machín must explain why he has let this investment be lost," states Hernández.

The Mayor's resolution of August 10, 2026 recognizes that the refund occurs due to the "impossibility of carrying out the contracting and adaptation work of the space in due time and form." The aid was paid in full to the City Council on December 20, 2023. Subsequently, the execution deadline was extended until June 30, 2025, and the justification deadline until August 15 of the same year.

For the PSOE, these precedents show "a lack of planning and follow-up" by the municipal government. "The resolution itself signed by the mayor recognizes that the action was not contracted and executed in due time and form. That is the reality of his management: an available subsidy that ends up being returned and a commitment to La Santa that remains unfulfilled," points out the spokesperson.

The socialists also question the change of location included in the file. In June 2024, it was approved to move the project from the area adjacent to the Sociocultural Center of La Santa to the sports court of Mancha Blanca.

"Machín must explain why he removed an investment planned for this town from La Santa and why he was also unable to complete the project after changing its location. These are decisions of his government and he is responsible for them," argues Hernández.

The spokesperson also warns that "the economic damage could increase." The resolution approves the refund of the subsidy principal and contemplates processing the payment of late interest if the Cabildo liquidates them later.

The PSOE of Tinajo demands that the mayor account for the causes that prevented the action from being carried out, report on the status of the refund, and present an alternative with specific funding and deadlines to comply with La Santa.

"La Santa cannot keep waiting while its mayor lets the money intended to improve its facilities go to waste. We demand that he assume his responsibility and give a concrete answer to the residents," concludes Begoña Hernández.
