The Socialist Party (PSOE) of Teguise expresses its satisfaction with the first step taken in the Canary Islands Parliament to include the island of La Graciosa in the lyrics of the official anthem of the Canary Islands.
This demonstration is being carried out by socialists following the agreement this Wednesday to consider the legislative proposal aimed at the specific modification of Law 20/2003, which will allow the lyrics of the Arroró from the Canarian Songs by composer Teobaldo Power to mention the eight islands of the Archipelago, in reference to the recognition of La Graciosa as a populated island in the last reform of the Canary Islands' Statute of Autonomy.
The proposal, signed by the Socialist Party and the majority of parliamentary groups, received the unanimous vote of deputies, which will allow the processing of the legal modification to adapt the lyrics of the current anthem to begin.
The socialist deputy for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Marcos Bergaz, defended the initiative which he described as a necessary and just gesture: "a gesture that was due and we applaud so that La Graciosa can be incorporated into an anthem that unites and represents the two million fellow citizens of this land," he stated.
"A symbolic act that reaffirms the belonging to the collective and common project of the Canary Islands of a unique island, of great women and men who have historically raised their voices to be treated with equal rights, obligations, and opportunities," Bergaz recalled"Therefore, it is only fair that, like the rest of the islands, the eighth one becomes part of the lyrics of the Canary Islands anthem, a matter that must be accompanied by measures to address pending challenges that mark the present and future of La Graciosa," continued the deputy and municipal spokesperson"How to overcome the difficulties associated with triple insularity; how to achieve the desired territorial planning and management; how to fulfill pending investments; or how to achieve greater coordination among the administrations with jurisdiction over the island, to all of this he called upon current and future public representatives," enumerated Bergaz."Challenges that, as they are met, will strengthen the region, from La Graciosa, to Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro, all represented by the symbols we share, such as the official anthem that will soon mention the eight islands or 'peñas' that make up the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands," Marcos Bergaz concluded.
