The PSOE of Lanzarote denounces that the Cabildo of Lanzarote "is allocating its own personnel" to pruning vines in "private lands" within the protected area of La Geria, instead of "focusing efforts on the restoration and maintenance of the landscape that should be the main objective of the public Employment Plan announced for this area".
The socialists demand explanations from the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, and his government team about "the use of public resources for the benefit of private exploitations, when this type of work should be paid for by the owners of the farms and not by public funds".
“It is unacceptable that the Cabildo is using public personnel to carry out work on private farms. An employment plan should serve to conserve La Geria and generate job opportunities for the benefit of the general interest, not to benefit a few at the expense of the money of all Lanzarote residents”, denounced the spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Cabildo, Ariagona González.
From the PSOE they remember that the maintenance of private exploitations is the responsibility of their owners and that public resources should be used for the recovery of the landscape, the restoration of stone walls or the cleaning of volcanic ash. “The government of Oswaldo Betancort must explain who has decided to employ Cabildo personnel in private work and with what criteria”, added González.
The socialists also demand "transparency in the management of this plan and demand that the list of actions carried out be made public", as well as the criteria used to allocate resources. “We are not going to allow the money of everyone to be used to do favors for the friends of some”, concluded the socialist spokesperson.
