The PSOE of Arrecife proposes to move the carnival to the Ginory site

Alfredo Mendoza advocates turning that piece of land into a permanent facility where "the House of Carnival" would be located

The Arrecife PSOE councilor, Alfredo Mendoza, has proposed that the carnival celebration be held on the Ginory site, given its condition as "land owned by the City Council."

Mendoza explained that the PSOE will take this idea to the next Plenary Session, in a motion proposing this transfer since, in addition to not altering the operation of the Auto-Covid, the proposed location allows "to bring the carnival closer to the center of Arrecife."

"Celebrating the carnival on the Ginory site means bringing the festivities closer to the neighborhoods with the greatest carnival tradition, where most of the murgas are based," Mendoza said. "It is a positive initiative for the area, as bars and restaurants would benefit from the influx of public before and after the shows," he adds.

For Mendoza, this should be "a first step" to consider the possibility of turning that piece of land into a permanent facility where "the House of Carnival" would be located. "A space destined for rehearsal and meeting rooms for murgas and comparsas that could house a future Carnival Museum," the socialists point out.

The socialist councilor explained that the world of carnival has always considered it "a loss" to have had to abandon the traditional location in the Parque Islas Canarias, due to security requirements. He assures that this new location would return them, at least, "to a central space."
