PSOE Canarias celebrates the release of Miguel Moreno Dapena. The Canary Islands citizen, who had been held in a Venezuelan prison for several months, is among the first Spanish prisoners released from Venezuelan prisons. Moreno Dapena was arrested while sailing on the marine exploration vessel N35, which was intercepted by the Venezuelan Navy last June.
The release of Moreno Dapena and four other Spaniards has been confirmed this afternoon by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From PSOE Canarias, they have expressed gratitude for the "key role" played in recent months by former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, who from the outset took an interest in Moreno Dapena's particular situation, becoming one of the first to be released amidst the country's current circumstances.
The Secretary General of PSOE Canarias, Ángel Víctor Torres, wanted to emphasize "the warm personal and human involvement" of Rodríguez Zapatero in this case, as well as that of María Dolores Palliser, a historic socialist parliamentarian, and, especially, the work of the current deputy for the province of Las Palmas and Secretary General of PSOE Lanzarote, Dolores Corujo, who has maintained contact with the family of Moreno Dapena during these difficult times which, "fortunately, have had a happy ending".
"I have spoken with Miguel's mother, María Jesús, and I have shared the joy on behalf of the Canary Islands socialists," Torres pointed out. The freed Canary Islands citizen is expected to arrive in Spain in the coming hours.
