The PSOE of Tinajo has presented a motion to the municipal plenary session to demand comprehensive action in Calderetas and Montañeta due to the deterioration and lack of maintenance that has been accumulating in the area in recent years.
The socialist spokesperson, Begoña Hernández, denounces that after more than three years of municipal mandate, problems persist that should be part of the ordinary maintenance of the City Council, such as deteriorated or out-of-service streetlights, unlit areas, dirt roads in poor condition, deteriorated signs, damaged manholes, and an insufficient number of containers.
“Calderetas and Montañeta have been waiting too long. We are not talking about large projects or extraordinary actions. We are talking about lighting, cleaning, security, roads in good condition, and basic public services that any resident of Tinajo has the right to receive,” states Hernández.
The socialist councilor recalls that this is an area with unique landscape and rural characteristics that must be preserved, but warns that “protecting the environment cannot become an excuse for not maintaining it.”
“We do not want to transform Calderetas and Montañeta or cover an area with asphalt that has its own characteristics that we must conserve. Precisely out of respect for that environment, its roads must be adequately maintained, lighting improved, and dignified and safe conditions guaranteed for those who live there,” she explains.
Among the deficiencies detected by the PSOE are streetlights of which only the pole remains, completely dark spots at night, deteriorated, rusted, or fallen traffic signs, manholes in poor condition, roads that need leveling and compaction, a shortage of containers, and accumulation of waste outdoors due to lack of capacity.
The socialist party also warns of the existence of ruins, deteriorated constructions, and cisterns near passage areas that must be inspected to ensure they do not pose a risk to people.
Hernández considers it particularly significant that the residents themselves, in the absence of a municipal response, have sometimes collaborated in the cleaning and maintenance of roads and spaces in the area.
“When the residents themselves have to take care of tasks that correspond to the City Council, it is evident that something is failing. We cannot normalize that there are areas of Tinajo that have to wait years to receive the maintenance they need,” he/she states.
An action plan with specific deadlines
The socialist motion proposes that the City Council carry out a comprehensive inspection of Calderetas and Montañeta within a maximum period of three months to identify existing deficiencies in terms of cleaning, conservation, lighting, signage, waste, security, roads, and other elements of municipal competence.
Based on this diagnosis, the PSOE proposes to develop a comprehensive plan that establishes the necessary actions, their priorities, and a specific execution calendar.
Among the proposed measures are repairing and replacing deteriorated lampposts and installing new light points where necessary; conditioning, leveling, and compacting dirt roads with techniques compatible with the characteristics of the environment; repairing manholes and signage; reviewing the number and capacity of containers and ensuring an adequate frequency of waste collection.
The socialists also propose establishing periodic maintenance programs for both the roads and the entirety of Calderetas and Montañeta to prevent municipal actions from being limited to occasional interventions again.
“The problem in Tinajo is that too often we wait until a situation deteriorates completely to act. Preventive maintenance must be part of the City Council's daily management. It is more effective, avoids risks, and, above all, shows that all nuclei and areas of the municipality matter equally,” Hernández maintains.
The socialist spokesperson concludes by demanding that the municipal government “listen to the residents and stop allowing the passage of time to turn small deficiencies into ever-greater problems.”
“Calderetas and Montañeta are also Tinajo. Their residents deserve the same attention, the same services, and the same care as any other area of the municipality. That is exactly what we are demanding from the PSOE,” concludes Begoña Hernández.
