The PSOE of Arrecife has denounced this Tuesday that the new buses of Arrecife have been "weeks out of the ITV of Playa Honda", despite the "transport needs of the city".

This was criticised by the spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the City Council, Alfredo Mendoza: "once again, the inhabitants of Arrecife are facing a summer plagued with deficiencies in the public transport service".

“The buses, which are the main means of transport for many residents, continue to operate without air conditioning and without adequate adaptations for all users, generating numerous inconveniences in the population. Despite repeated complaints and high demand, the frequency of the buses remains insufficient. Unpunctuality has become a constant, affecting the daily routine of citizens”, Mendoza pointed out.

The socialist spokesperson stressed that “in addition, the three microbuses, far from being a solution, aggravate the problem. The limited capacity of these vehicles is ridiculous compared to the high demand, creating situations of chaos and discomfort among users”.

"Breach" of the government group

“The situation becomes even more critical considering that Arrecife is a city with a population of 65,000 inhabitants, where the demand for an efficient public transport service is high. However, the current capacity of the microbuses is insufficient to meet the needs of the residents, leaving many without an adequate transport option”, adds Mendoza, who pointed out that this scenario is compounded by the "breach of promises" of the current government.

“In March, new buses and the implementation of new lines were promised, however, to this day, no improvement has materialised. This lack of action reflects a worrying indifference towards the need for more sustainable mobility and adequate management of collective public transport and the false promises of the head of the transport area, Mario González, of the Popular Party”, he pointed out.

Likewise, the socialists have denounced that the City Council "fails to comply with an agreement reached with the union of workers of the bus service to improve the working conditions of drivers" that this government. “The city council has thrown away the consensus reached” creating a "stressful working situation for our drivers”. “They are only having one day off, breaching an agreement from April 2022”, they concluded.

The PSOE of Arrecife demands an immediate response and concrete solutions from the mayor Yonathan de León. It is crucial that measures are taken to improve the frequency, punctuality and capacity of the bus service, ensuring that all citizens can enjoy an efficient and comfortable public transport.
