The PSOE denounces that the government leaves the beaches of Costa Teguise "without seasonal services"

The opposition party accuses the municipal government of lack of planning by leaving the beaches without services such as sunbeds and umbrellas in the middle of summer

The Socialist Party (PSOE) of Teguise has denounced this Tuesday in a press release the “recurrent lack of planning” of the municipal government, which includes the Canarian Coalition, the Popular Party and the former VOX councilor, given "the absence in the middle of summer of seasonal services on the main beaches of Costa Teguise".

“It is not that they do not want sunbeds and umbrellas on the beaches of Las Cucharas, El Jablillo or Bastián, it is that once again the government does not do its homework on time”, lamented Benito Rodríguez, socialist councilor.

“At 12:00 a.m. on April 30, 2025, the service that has been provided since 2022 on the main beaches of Costa Teguise expired, without the municipal government having contracted a new one, whose tender has not yet appeared in the contractor's profile”, explained Rodríguez, “so we greatly fear that the entire summer will pass without it, time will tell”.

The socialists have recalled that the contract for the exploitation of the seasonal services in question provided the City Council with 296,000 euros of annual fee, and that in addition to the provision of sunbeds, umbrellas and other services, it also included the cleaning of the beaches.

A cleaning service

“In particular, the tasks necessary for the comprehensive and successive daily cleaning, be it the oxygenation, filtering and mechanical disinfection of the sand, by sieving and turning it over, before the opening of the beaches to users; or the manual cleaning of the sand in places difficult to access for machines”, as stated in the specifications of the previous contract formalized in March 2022 and valid until this month of April.

In this way, the councilor has highlighted that “to the demanded improvement in the conservation and maintenance of the beaches, another example of lack of planning is now added, by leaving the main beaches of this residential tourist town without the usual seasonal services”.

Other urgent points, according to the PSOE

“We are facing a recurrent lack of planning, Rodríguez emphasizes: more than 700 days without a new contract for the municipal gardens; poor image of conservation and maintenance of the main accesses, precisely to Costa Teguise, with its more than 9,000 residents and thousands of tourists; or the state of various areas forgotten and punished by the floods of the distant month of April”.

In this sense, the Socialist Party has stated in a press release that these situations "must be resolved". In this way, it has recalled proposals such as processing the file for the new garden service urgently; enabling a budget item with which to rehabilitate the points forgotten and punished by the rains; or the shock plan demanded to improve the accesses to Costa Teguise”.

“And when referring to the beaches, we cannot ignore our initiative from more than a year ago to address an action plan to improve the state, conservation and maintenance of the beaches and bathing areas of the municipality, be it in Costa Teguise, La Caleta de Famara, La Graciosa, Los Cocoteros, etc.”, he added

“It is a shame that the municipal government does not allow itself to be helped, with everything that needs to be done in this great municipality and each of its towns and payments, from Nazaret to Tahíche, from La Graciosa to Guatiza, or from La Villa to Soo. For our part, we will continue in our work of firm and constructive opposition as an alternative to the current government”, concluded Benito Rodríguez.
