The insular secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote and deputy for the province of Las Palmas, María Dolores Corujo, has accused the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, of "having launched into a judicial hunt using public funds with the sole purpose of disqualifying her".
"The hiring of José María Choclán, Aldama's lawyer, is nothing more than a desperate attempt by Oswaldo Betancort to keep the judicial persecution against me alive, after the harsh Decree of dismissal from the Supreme Court Prosecutor's Office," highlighted the also insular counselor.
Corujo recalled that the Prosecutor's Office has "categorically denied the existence of criminal indications in the political complaint" promoted by Oswaldo Betancort before the Arrecife Prosecutor's Office, using the lawyer for Coalición Canaria in the Cabildo, hired as insular director with a salary of more than 5,000 euros per month.
"Now, when it is proven that the accusations against me lacked any foundation, Oswaldo Betancort pays 15,500 euros to Choclán just for filing a lawsuit against me, in a flight forward that only aims to keep alive a complaint that lacks any foundation," Corujo reproached.

For Corujo, it is significant that the decision to hire a criminal lawyer to file the lawsuit was supported by only the five votes of Coalición Canaria in the Insular Government Council, which makes it clear that this is a political lawsuit and not an institutional action.
"It is pathetic that Oswaldo Betancort tries to shield himself behind an alleged defense of public funds when the Cabildo of Lanzarote never paid Sosa's salary," said the socialist counselor. "He cares little about public money when he squanders more than 5,000 euros a month paying the lawyer for Coalición Canaria in the Cabildo and hires Choclán, who will charge 15,500 euros just for filing the complaint," she concluded.
