The PSOE denounces that Oswaldo Betancort leaves 5.7 million euros uninvested in water

The PSOE of Lanzarote has denounced that the liquidation of the 2025 Cabildo budget reflects the priorities of Oswaldo Betancort's Government. The Water Supply Consortium closed the fiscal year with a financing capacity of 5,728,691 euros, an amount that was not translated into the investments the island needs. Lanzarote External Promotion, for its part, ended the year with a deficit of 2,130,723 euros.

Socialist councilor Benjamín Perdomo explained that External Promotion recognized expenses of 11,653,251 euros, more than two million above its income. The Water Consortium only recognized obligations of 4,511,846 euros, despite the deterioration of hydraulic infrastructures and the continuous supply problems that Lanzarote suffers.

“The accounts make it clear where Oswaldo Betancort has placed his priorities. His Government has allocated more than eleven million euros to external promotion, parties, and events, and has left fundamental resources unexecuted for renewing networks, reducing losses, and improving supply,” stated Perdomo.

The socialist councilor considers it “irresponsible and unjustifiable” that External Promotion closes the fiscal year with a deficit of over two million euros and that the Water Consortium ends the year with almost 5.7 million available without converting them into actions.

“The residents of Lanzarote continue to suffer cuts, breakdowns, and water losses every day. The island needs urgent investments and serious management. Closing the year with almost six million unexecuted demonstrates a clear lack of planning and capacity to face one of our main problems,” he pointed out.

Perdomo recalled that the budgetary liquidation allows for checking the decisions made by the insular Government during the last year. “Oswaldo Betancort has turned External Promotion into a tool to finance parties, events, and whims. The result is more than eleven million spent and a deficit of 2.1 million. In terms of water, essential investments to improve the service remain pending,” he assured.

“The 2025 liquidation confirms disordered management and one that is far from Lanzarote's needs. Oswaldo Betancort must explain why External Promotion spends above its income and why the Water Consortium did not execute the available resources to improve the island's hydraulic infrastructures,” concluded Benjamín Perdomo.
