The PSOE of Lanzarote denounces that the Minister of Sports of the Cabildo, Juan Monzón (Partido Popular), has traveled to Kona, Hawaii, on a trip "collecting per diems", without it being known "what institutional agenda justifies its duration nor what management requires his presence on the other side of the world".

Socialist minister Benjamín Perdomo demands that the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort (CC), explain the necessity of this trip and make its full cost public. "Twelve days of travel to Hawaii and collecting per diems. What justification is there for the Minister of Sports of Lanzarote to travel to Kona to attend a sporting event? What work agenda requires staying twelve days away from the island and what concrete benefit does Lanzarote obtain?", he asks.

The trip adds to the trips of the insular government to Iceland, New York, Gambia, Mauritania, San Antonio, Texas, Toronto, Boston, and Brazil. For the PSOE, Betancort's government has turned the Cabildo into " a travel agency for its ministers, who act as official tourists around the world with the money of the people of Lanzarote, while the island's problems remain unanswered", they have denounced.

"Betancort's government continues to add destinations while the citizens do not know what all these trips have been for," Perdomo has maintained.

The PSOE has requested that the dates of the trip, the complete work agenda, the composition of the delegation, and the breakdown of expenses for flights, accommodation, and per diems, as well as the entities that have financed them, be made public.

"Every day of travel and every public euro must have a justification. Oswaldo Betancort is responsible for his government's decisions and has the obligation to provide explanations. The people of Lanzarote deserve to know why their Minister of Sports needs twelve days in Hawaii while the island's problems continue to wait," Perdomo concluded.
