The PSOE of Lanzarote denounces that Oswaldo Betancort maintains his intention to guarantee a release for Ángel Vázquez after his dismissal from the leadership of the Centers of Art, Culture, and Tourism. Although this Monday, in the Finance Commission, the release was withdrawn as a plenary item, subsequently a proposal for a 75% dedication has been introduced to the agenda. For the socialists, this maneuver "constitutes a mockery of the citizens and maintains the purpose of protecting the Partido Popular councilor with public money".

The spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Cabildo, Ariagona González, directly points to the president as responsible for this decision. "Betancort withdraws the release in the Spokespersons' Board and then incorporates it into the agenda at 75%. He is fooling people and looking for a way for Ángel Vázquez to continue collecting from the Cabildo," she states.

The socialists recall that the crisis began when it became known that Vázquez had signed the final resolution of the procedure in which his son obtained a permanent position in the CACT. His departure from the Tourist Centers did not mean his separation from the insular executive, where he has continued as a member of the Governing Council and secretary councilor of that body.

"This is the hallmark of Oswaldo Betancort's government: a councilor signs the resolution by which his son obtains a permanent position in a public company and, when the scandal forces him to be removed, the president protects and rewards him by ensuring him a release from the Cabildo. The one who is protecting Ángel Vázquez is Betancort, and he intends to do so with everyone's money," denounces González.

For the PSOE, the sequence of decisions "demonstrates that the president seeks to maintain Vázquez's remunerated continuity despite the rejection that this operation has generated." The socialists warn that withdrawing a proposal to later introduce a 75% dedication "does not respond to his demand for accountability."

"We are not asking for a reduction in the cost of protecting Ángel Vázquez. We are demanding that public money stop being used to protect him. The problem is not only how much he is going to collect, but why Betancort is determined to guarantee him a salary after what happened," maintains the spokesperson.

The PSOE considers that the president intends for the institution to assume the cost of preserving the agreement between Coalición Canaria and the Popular Party. "Buying Ángel Vázquez's political silence at 75% still means doing so with the money of the people of Lanzarote. The citizenry does not have to finance the agreements with which Betancort tries to keep his government partner calm," points out González.

The spokesperson emphasizes that Vázquez's permanence in the insular executive directly compromises the president. "Betancort cannot hide behind the PP. He is the one who keeps him in the Governing Council and who supports him having a release. Withdrawing the item in the Spokespersons' Board to incorporate it later with another percentage shows how far he is willing to go to protect him," she adds.

The PSOE of Lanzarote demands the withdrawal of the release proposal and the departure of Ángel Vázquez from the Governing Council. "The Cabildo's resources must attend to the needs of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, not serve to reward a counselor after a scandal. We will continue to demand that Betancort stop protecting him and assume his responsibility before the citizenry," concludes Ariagona González.
