The PSOE of Lanzarote has denounced that the CEO of the Tourist Centers, Ángel Vázquez, has raised his salary by 25,000 euros more from one year to another, going from 69,785.37 euros in 2023 to 94,742.48 euros in 2024.
The socialist councilor in the Cabildo, Benjamín Perdomo, described this increase as "scandalous and unjustifiable", stressing that "there is no reason to support it, much less on an island that is going through a crisis of water, housing and basic services."
"In just one year, Vázquez, with the connivance of Oswaldo Betancort, decided to put almost 25,000 euros more in his pocket while families continue waiting for decent housing, while water cuts continue and while public services are collapsing. It is an insult to the citizens of Lanzarote and a sample of what the priority of Coalición Canaria and the Partido Popular is: first their salaries and then, if there is anything left, the island," Perdomo denounced.
The socialist councilor recalls that this increase is not an isolated event, but adds to a management model marked by excessive spending on travel, events and institutional propaganda, which does not affect improving the lives of citizens at all.
"The Tourist Centers must be an engine of employment, sustainability and culture. What we are seeing is just the opposite: a fiefdom at the service of CC and PP where salaries are raised, expenses skyrocket and the public function that they should fulfill is abandoned," Perdomo concluded.
