The Socialist Party (PSOE) of Teguise claims this Tuesday from the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the City Council of Teguise the commissioning of the new preferential stop in Costa Teguise and demands an end to what it calls the "kidnapping" of an infrastructure that remains closed months after the works were completed.
The claim comes after a new day of its citizen initiative "door to door", developed in this town of more than 9,000 residents, in which socialist representatives have been able to learn firsthand about the demands of the citizens and verify the state of a facility that continues to provide no service.
During this meeting with residents, they collected various concerns related to the situation in Costa Teguise, including that of an infrastructure designed to improve public transport which, despite being finished, still has not opened its doors to users.
The PSOE considers that an infrastructure of these characteristics, located in one of the main tourist and residential centers of Lanzarote, must become operational as soon as possible and calls on both administrations to expedite the pending procedures to make its opening effective.
The socialists recall that this action was promoted during the previous term, under the presidency of Loli Corujo in the Cabildo of Lanzarote and with Marcos Bergaz as Minister of Transport, a period in which more than two million euros of European funds were obtained for its execution.
“We did not obtain more than two million euros in the previous term for an investment of this importance to be closed for months. There has been enough time to complete the necessary administrative procedures and put it at the service of the citizens,” points out Marcos Bergaz, socialist spokesperson in Teguise.
The councilor highlights that Costa Teguise needs a decisive commitment to public transport and recalls that this action is complemented by the urban renewal of the adjacent plot, intended for the enjoyment and recreation of residents, especially the youngest.
“We are concerned that months pass and a necessary infrastructure continues without entering service. We are talking about a public investment that must fulfill the objective for which it was designed: to improve mobility and offer a better service to the citizens,” adds Bergaz.
The socialist spokesperson recalls that the municipal group has already requested information on the situation of the stop in the last plenary sessions and announces that it will raise this issue again in the next plenary session.
“We regret the hijacking to which the Cabildo and the City Council have subjected this infrastructure and we demand that it be definitively unblocked so that it can be at the service of the citizens,” concludes Bergaz.
