The PSOE of Lanzarote demands that the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, immediately dismiss the CEO of the Centers of Art, Culture, and Tourism, Ángel Vázquez, after it became known that his son obtained a permanent position in the CACT in a procedure whose final resolution was signed by the counselor himself. The deputy spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Ariagona González, considers that the known facts "are of sufficient gravity for Betancort to act immediately and remove Vázquez from his responsibilities".
“Oswaldo Betancort cannot look the other way. We are talking about a counselor who signs the final resolution of a selection process in which one of the people who obtained a permanent position is his own son. Regardless of the legal responsibilities that may be determined, politically his continuity is unsustainable,” states González.
According to the published information, Ángel Vázquez signed the bases of the selection process in January 2024 to fill 15 permanent positions for cleaners in the Tourist Centers and, subsequently, on November 12, 2025, he also signed the final resolution with the selected individuals. Among them was his son, who obtained one of the positions. The PSOE also recalls that the bases of the process itself referred to articles 23 and 24 of Law 40/2015, on the Legal Regime of the Public Sector, relating to the causes of abstention of authorities and public employees when there is, among other cases, kinship with any of the persons interested in the procedure.
The socialist spokesperson demands that Oswaldo Betancort publicly explain what knowledge he had of this procedure, when he learned that his counselor's son was participating in the process, and what actions he took or intends to take once the facts are known. “As president of the Cabildo, he has the responsibility to guarantee that those who are part of his government act with absolute exemplary conduct and that there is not the slightest shadow of doubt about the selection processes of a public entity. Ángel Vázquez must be dismissed and Betancort must assume the responsibility that corresponds to him as president,” argues González.
“We do not prejudge what legal consequences what happened may have, because that corresponds to determining it where appropriate. But political responsibility is another thing and it is immediate. If Oswaldo Betancort does not dismiss Ángel Vázquez after these facts become known, he will be personally assuming the political responsibility of keeping him in office,” concludes Ariagona González.
