The PSOE of Arrecife has denounced that both the mayor of the capital of Lanzarote, Yonathan de León (PP), and the councilor for celebrations of the capital, Echedey Eugenio (CC), have "disregarded" the city's carnival. The opposition party has highlighted that the groups that have given life to one of the most important festivals in the city "have been ignored".
The political formation has highlighted that there have been "contracts signed at the last minute, ugly towards the murguero collective, disorganization, suppliers left hanging with contracts that were not executed, and an endless number of improvisations that are only a symptom that so many parties, millions, and unbridled revelries have led to the carnival being just one of many, even the one to which the least work has been dedicated". Faced with this, the party has pointed out that the Government group has dedicated itself to "spending millions of euros on parties without roots, such as the April Fair and others invented like Beach Day, the 'mangas fest', and thousands of other 'fests' to squander money".
The formation highlighted that "until a few days before, it was not known where the carnival galas were going to take place; the town criers were called a couple of weeks before," while adding that "many committed concerts were left without a financial record." "The catastrophe was about to take on dramatic overtones when the murgas considered going on stage, reading a joint statement, and leaving without performing," it indicated. "In the end, in an act of responsibility, which the murgueros have, and the mayor and the festival councilor do not, the contest was held with the few surviving murgas, only five," they added.
The PSOE points out Echedey Eugenio's "lies" with Agramar
The PSOE has recalled that Echedey Eugenio commented at the beginning of the legislature that the transfer of the celebrations was being taken to Agramar "out of obligation," since the Congress Palace project prevented them from being held at the fairgrounds, on the Cabildo esplanade. "Now he has been exposed in his penultimate lie, closing Agramar and inaugurating the future Congress Palace, which apparently is the same old tent, but in a convertible version," they continued.
The disaster has been so great that "they have prevented the broadcast of the float parade at the Carnival," he continued. The PSOE asks: "What direction can this City Council have in the hands of the most incompetent people in the political history of Lanzarote, Echedey Eugenio and Yonathan de León?".
