The former councilor for Neighborhoods of the Arrecife City Council, among many other roles, Lorenzo Lemaur, proclaimed this Thursday the Valterra Festivals, which have the collaboration of the Festivals Department of the City Council of the Lanzarote capital, directed by the deputy mayor Echedey Eugenio, who was present at the event along with the mayor Yonathan de León. Pedro Armas, emeritus parish priest of the fishing neighborhood and in charge of introducing the town crier, and the current parish priest of Valterra, Juan Carlos Medina, also spoke.

“When a country, a region, an island, a town has a feeling, a flag, a football team, a historical event, a devotion, it unites and is strong and important. This also happens with a neighborhood. Valterra has a seafaring spirit and the soul of a murga, it has its flag and its identity of Indians, the football team is becoming great again, it suffered the tragedy of the Cruz del Mar and it has devotion to the Virgen del Carmen and her protection; therefore: Valterra is important! Valterra is great!”

“Pipanazo”

After concluding his speech with these words that broadly summarize the content of his proclamation, Lemaur proceeded to the “pipanazo,” the launching of the firecracker that announced the start of celebrations organized by the Festival Commission, headed by the president of the Valterra Neighborhood Association, Antonio Leal, for whom both Yonathan de León and Echedey Eugenio had words of congratulations and thanks for the “attractive” program of events prepared, which began with the parade that preceded the proclamation led by the batucada Villa Pipol.

An extensive and varied program of events in whose preparation the Unión Deportiva Valterra has also collaborated and which will extend until Sunday, July 19, when the traditional maritime procession of the Virgen del Carmen will be held, and which will also include children's and adult playbacks, sports tournaments, festivals, asaderos, children's workshops, lottery, scavenger hunt, outdoor cinema, drag shows, lady and miss and mister elections, as well as musical performances, among which the performance by singer Pepe Benavente at 10:00 PM on Wednesday the 15th stands out.
