The People's Party of Tías will debate in the next City Council plenary session a motion to "defend the agrarian, landscape, and environmental values" of the town of Masdache, due to what they consider "an attitude of silence, inaction, and incoherence" on the part of the municipal government in the face of the controversial installation of a telecommunications tower on municipal land, despite neighborhood opposition.
The councilor and president of the PP of Tías, Francisco Aparicio, has pointed out that "it is unacceptable that, almost seven months after the installation of this infrastructure, the government has renounced defending an environment of very high landscape and environmental value, the gateway to the Protected Landscape of La Geria". According to Aparicio, it is a cession of municipal land for an facility "totally incompatible with the values that the government itself claims to protect".
From the Popular Group they recall that "the government group has indeed used those same landscape and environmental values to justify delays or reject other projects, such as the improvement of the hermitage of Santa María Magdalena or photovoltaic energy initiatives in ZAR areas". "You cannot have a double standard: either the values of Masdache are defended always, or they are never defended," stressed Aparicio.
In this regard, he criticized that “the government publicly recognizes the complexity of acting in a protected environment when it suits it, but completely ignores that same argument when it comes to authorizing a large turret that has generated profound neighborhood unease”.
Faced with this situation, the Popular Party proposes the development and implementation of an Action Plan for the Defense of the Agrarian, Landscape, and Environmental Values of Masdache, which will allow "an end to arbitrariness and establish a firm commitment from all political forces".
Among the proposed measures, the PP defends the implementation of alternative technological solutions that guarantee mobile telephony coverage and make possible the elimination of the current tower, as well as the recovery of space with the creation of a picnic area and a biosanitary park for the use and enjoyment of the citizens.
In addition, the motion includes the creation of a network of trails, the implementation of talks and outreach activities on the values of the La Geria environment, and the creation of a line of aid aimed at the wine sector, as a fundamental axis of the local landscape and economy.
“Masdache cannot continue paying for the contradictions and political cynicism of the municipal government. From the Partido Popular, we will continue defending its neighbors and a natural and agricultural heritage that belongs to everyone,” concluded Francisco Aparicio
