The Popular Party of Lanzarote and La Graciosa denounces "once again the systematic abandonment to which the Government of Pedro Sánchez has subjected the Canary Islands, and especially Lanzarote, in matters of immigration and the sepulchral silence of the deputy, senator, and the Insular Director of the State Administration of our island".
In this regard, the data "is on the table, and between the second half of September and what we have of October, nearly 1,000 irregular migrants have arrived on our island".
The president of the popular party of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, María Jesús Tovar, assures that this situation "is unsustainable for an island like Lanzarote". "Where have Ms. Dolores Corujo, Mr. Fajardo Palarea, and Mr. Pedro Viera been these last 3 years while Lanzarote suffered one crisis after another with resources on the verge of collapse?", asks the president.
Likewise, and in relation to the resources available to Lanzarote, the president of the popular party recalls that the island currently has a Temporary Center for Foreigners' Care (CATE) "completely deficient and that does not meet the minimum conditions of humanity".
“It is curious to see how the left champions discourses of humanization, open doors, and labels everyone as racist when they have been incapable of providing adequate facilities in a better location than the current one, as we have demanded from the Popular Party from day one,” adds Tovar.
In this sense, the president recalls that the current CATE in Arrecife has a capacity of around 150 people and that, in critical moments such as those that occurred at the end of September, "there were times when more than 200 people coexisted in the place". "These situations not only demonstrate the poor management capacity of the Government of Spain, but they put maritime rescue personnel, state security forces and bodies, and the people and NGOs that collaborate with the assistance of migrants in a difficult situation," she adds.
María Jesús Tovar also laments that this situation "went from being something occasional to a repetitive situation every time boats arrive on our coast".
“The PSOE always has the same pattern: they pretend to worry about the situation when they see that the resources are collapsed, they say that everything is under control, and two days later they stop talking about the issue. Thus, in an infinite loop,” concludes the president.
