The PP claims Astrid Pérez's management in the Valterra housing process

The party assures that the former mayor acted with transparency and reproaches the PSOE for having used the matter for partisan purposes

The Popular Party of Lanzarote has responded to the recurrent and reiterated allusions by the PSOE regarding the Valterra housing, recalling that the PP was always clear with the residents and that the position maintained by the Arrecife City Council during Astrid Pérez's term was guided at all times by criteria of institutional responsibility, legal certainty, and defense of the interests of the legitimate owners.

The popular party considers it totally self-serving and electoralist that the socialists continue to maintain that the City Council refused to receive the housing, when what was actually defended was a different formula to conclude the process with greater guarantees and in a faster timeframe for the affected families.

The Popular Party recalls that the then mayor, "Astrid Pérez, proposed that the transfer of the housing would allow, in the same notarial act, the subsequent transfer to their legitimate owners, avoiding intermediate procedures that could generate legal difficulties and delay the definitive resolution of the file".

The party states that "although it offered a more direct solution for the residents, this alternative was rejected by the Social Institute of the Navy, with the applause of the PSOE and the president of the Cabildo, Dolores Corujo, who opted for the latter institution to carry out the procedure". "What was presented as a refusal by the City Council was, in reality, a call for prudence in the face of a procedure whose complexity has become evident over time, as the INS did not have the property titles".

For the Popular Party, the facts have ended up confirming Astrid Pérez's warnings. It should be recalled that in May 2022, the PSOE publicly conveyed to the residents the idea that the solution was practically closed and that "the housing was about to be deeded in favor of those who occupied them".

However, they point out that "the reality shows that the PSOE deceived the families since the procedure was far from being completed and that the expectations they generated among the residents of Valterra did not correspond to the true administrative and legal complexity of the file".

For the Popular Party, "the reality is undeniable: the mayor acted with transparency and the solution defended by Astrid Pérez sought to expedite the arrival of housing to its legitimate owners, avoiding the current problems. It is regrettable that the PSOE continues to use this matter for partisan purposes instead of recognizing that time has ended up proving right those who opted for a faster, safer, and more beneficial solution for the residents of Valterra".
