The Platform for People Affected by Mortgages of Lanzarote has occupied this Friday the Banco Popular on León y Castillo street, in Arrecife, to show solidarity with José Antonio, a client from Barcelona with a multi-currency mortgage. He denounces that the initial loan of 390,000 euros has become 590,000 euros. This action is being carried out this Friday morning in about 20 cities in Spain, demanding the payment in kind for this client.

In Lanzarote, about 35 people have occupied this bank and do not plan to leave until José Antonio is granted the payment in kind. The National Police has entered the bank and asked for documentation from one of the members of the PAH in Lanzarote, Cristina Cividanes. "We are calm. They only identified me. We are not going to leave until they grant him the payment in Barcelona. The situation here in the bank is calm," Cividanes told La Voz.

This member of the PAH in Lanzarote explained that José Antonio "believed he was accessing a normal mortgage, but in reality they put him in a multi-currency mortgage." "He had already paid 100,000 euros but had to pay 590,000 euros. He lost his job and could not afford the mortgage," she said.

The members of the PAH will remain in the Banco Popular of Arrecife waiting for José Antonio to negotiate with the branch director in Barcelona. "We are going to stay here calmly. It is a matter of peaceful resistance, of sitting here and showing our support for José Antonio," Cividanes insisted.
