The Plenary Hall of the Cabildo of Lanzarote hosted this Tuesday a meeting between the island councilors of Territorial Planning and Policy, Jesús Machín, and of Environment and Biosphere Reserve, Samuel Martín, with the drafting team of the public company Gesplan, which has prepared the draft of the Plan for the Management of Natural Resources (PORN) of the Los Volcanes Natural Park.
The work meeting, which was also attended by the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, and the technicians of the Cabildo and the Town Halls of Tinajo and Yaiza, served to analyze and address, in depth, the keys to this important document which includes the detailed description and evaluation of the natural resources that we have in the Los Volcanes Natural Park, as well as their state of conservation and their foreseeable evolution.
The Minister of Territorial Planning and Policy, Jesús Machín, states that “in the meeting, which has been very fruitful, we have been able to learn, first-hand, about this new management plan that will lay the foundations to continue advancing in the protection of our most emblematic natural spaces, such as Charco de Los Clicos, Los Hervideros, Volcán del Cuervo, Montaña Colorada or Caldera Blanca, among others.”
Machín emphasizes that “these are unique environments in the world that we must protect and preserve for future generations by putting a stop and control to the massive influx of visitors.”
In this same sense, the Minister of Environment and Biosphere Reserve, Samuel Martín, has lamented that “these natural spaces did not have, until now, adequate protection”, while pointing out that “our fundamental objective is the protection of our territory and our environment and the Plan for the Management of Natural Resources of the Los Volcanes Natural Park is a good proof of this.”
“At last Lanzarote has this important planning instrument”, insists Machín, “a document that will soon be open to public consultation so that citizens, town halls and other agents involved can present their corresponding allegations.”
The current Government group of Lanzarote, led by Oswaldo Betancort, thus continues to take steps to culminate with the regulations and agree on future actions that allow protecting our natural spaces, both in Lanzarote and in La Graciosa.
