The political parties that will run in the general elections on November 29 have decided to present only four lists for the Senate for Lanzarote, compared to the fourteen lists that will vie for a seat in Congress. This is reflected in the publication of candidacies this Wednesday in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

In the previous elections in 2023, a total of seven lists were presented. On this occasion, the PSOE, the Partido Popular, the coalition between Coalición Canaria and Primero Canarias, and the party formed by the left-wing coalition between Nueva Canarias, Podemos, Izquierda Unida, and Sumar, called Unidad del Pueblo Canario, will be presented.

This reduction in candidacies occurred after agreements reached between the Partido Popular and Vox. The far-right party has decided not to run on any of the Canary Islands, but its candidates will be included in the popular party's lists.

As the candidate for the Socialist Party, the current senator for Lanzarote Francisco Manuel Fajardo Palarea is running again. The party has Sabina Inmaculada Vizcaino Sicilia and Celestino José Socas Callero as substitutes.

The Partido Popular has presented José Francisco Hernández García, known as Pancho Hernández, former mayor of Tías, as its candidate. He is accompanied by Maureen Margarita Meza Rieder and Víctor Manuel Duque Medrano as substitutes.

In the case of Coalición Canaria and its coalition with the municipalists of Primero Canarias, the candidate is Daisy Villalba Perdomo, accompanied by Marciano Acuña Betancor and María Matilde Corujo Fontes as substitutes.

The left-wing coalition Unidad del Pueblo Canario, for its part, presents Fernando María Jiménez García, popularly known as the doctor from Teguise, as its candidate. Fernando Jiménez is accompanied by María Zayda González Cedrés and Mamadou Niang Niang as substitutes.
