The housing crisis affecting the Canary Islands remains unresolved, while the measures proposed are insufficient. The Government of Spain approved the young rental voucher, an aid of 250 euros per month for those under 35 years of age. However, the Canary Islands and other autonomous communities were not complying with the speed required by the regulations to process these aids.

The Ombudsman, in his 2024 annual report, pointed out the "notable delay" of the Government of the Canary Islands in the "resolution of these aids", which was more than a year and led him to formulate "reminders of legal duties" to the Atlantic islands, Castilla y León, Galicia, Madrid, Murcia, Andalusia and Aragon.

This body urged the regional administrations to "issue and notify in a timely manner" the resolution to grant aid to the young rental voucher and to act with "efficiency, economy and speed".

Thus, he highlighted "the difficulty" that young people have in accessing housing and how this affects their emancipation. "The resources allocated to rental aid aimed at this group do not seem to be sufficient to cover the needs," he stated in the aforementioned report. In this way, he added that, despite meeting the requirements, many young people were left out of the call because the available credit was exhausted.
