The Renovating Movement of Tinajo has lamented that "the municipality is letting the train of renewable energies pass by due to the passivity of the mayor", who "has been unable to approve bonuses for companies and residents who want to bet on their installation, as the rest of the institutions are doing".
“It is a disgrace that even the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote has had to call the City Council out, pointing to Tinajo as one of the only three municipalities on the island that have not yet approved this type of aid,” questioned the party's spokesperson, Antonio Morales, after the press release issued last week by the chamber entity.
In addition, Morales recalled that the Renovating Movement of Tinajo has been demanding measures in this regard for a long time, “while the mayor limits himself to answering with the catchphrase that has become his answer for everything: We are working on it”.
In this regard, he explains that last March, the MRT already brought a motion to the Plenary requesting that the City Council grant tax reductions to residents who implement renewable energies in the municipality, as well as offer advice so that those interested know how to do it and what type of subsidies they could apply for. “He told us that they were looking at what measures other municipalities had taken and that he would inform us,” recalls Antonio Morales, who denounces that half a year later, they are still waiting.
“In August I asked him what had been done regarding this and he admitted to me that nothing has been done,” he questions, highlighting that these energies represent a commitment to sustainability and, at the same time, would be a source of savings for the residents who implement them, especially in the current economic scenario.
“Now more than ever we must bet on renewable energies, because the electricity bill has risen, with the cost that this implies for families, and it also implies an increase in the prices of the shopping basket and other products,” he warns.
“However, once again, the City Council of Tinajo is late, and the mayor once again demonstrates that he is neither there nor is he expected”, laments Morales, who emphasizes that throughout Europe there is a commitment to renewables. In fact, there are city councils on the island that have bonuses of up to 50% in force, and in other institutions they even reach 75%, “while Tinajo continues to turn its back on the future”.
“It is unfortunate that we miss the opportunity to adapt to the times in which we live. In the 21st century, he continues with outdated policies, of not solving anything and of only managing the routine and the day-to-day,” questions the councilor and president of the Renovating Movement of Tinajo. “He already has us used to headlines of 'we are already working on this issue', but the reality is that he has not resolved any issue of interest to the residents,” insists Antonio Morales.
