The Renovating Movement of Tinajo (MRT) has denounced the accumulation of waste, including hazardous waste, in the back of the municipality's cemetery, a space that, they say, has become a "true open-air dump" with the knowledge and consent of the local government group, headed by Jesús Machín.
According to the MRT spokesperson, Antonio Morales, "the City Council itself would be depositing waste in the area," despite the fact that Tinajo has a collection service for belongings and adequate facilities such as the Zonzamas environmental complex. In addition, the continuous dumping of rubble has been detected on a plot of land right in front of the cemetery, which aggravates the environmental deterioration of the area.
"Tinajo has gone from being an example of cleanliness to occupying the last places in environmental conservation," laments Morales, who believes that "every corner of the municipality is being transformed into an uncontrolled dumping point, all under the passivity —or even complicity— of the local government."
The MRT criticizes that this activity violates current legislation on waste and demands that the City Council act "immediately" to end a situation that they consider "shameful." "We do not understand why, instead of making use of existing means, they choose to contaminate and degrade such a sensitive area as this," the spokesperson emphasizes.
In addition, they describe it as "incoherent" that the municipal government intends to project an image of sustainability while, in practice, "an outdated policy is applied, without a vision of the future and far from the real needs of the municipality and its residents."
