Nine days before the start of the Arrecife Carnivals, the mayor, Ástrid Pérez, has signed a decree revoking the authorization that the City Council granted in September 2020 to install the autocovid in the Fairground.

“This mayor wants to respond to the need expressed by the Councilor for Festivities”, Encarna Páez, she points out in the resolution, in which she questions the “lack of collaboration on the part of the Cabildo in finding an alternative location during the Carnival festivities”.

The decree also unilaterally agrees to a new temporary transfer “on a precarious basis and free of charge” to the Cabildo, to use a much smaller space, located behind the Fairground tent.

In this regard, it establishes a first transfer during the Carnival days, between March 11 and 23, and another from that date, although specifying that “the assignee must eradicate the authorized use or action when agreed, at any time, without the right to any type of compensation”.

Finally, it orders the Cabildo to be notified of this agreement, signed this Wednesday, March 2, “for its knowledge and for the appropriate purposes”. Thus, it urges to vacate the current facilities, which the Island Corporation in turn made available to the Health area for carrying out Covid tests.
