The maritime avenue of Arrecife is now open to traffic

The maritime avenue of Arrecife is now open to traffic and the first hours of opening have passed "normally", according to the City Council.

A decree signed this Thursday by the mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, lifted the limitations and restrictions existing for that road agreed by the previous capital government, exactly three years ago today. Thus, since 6 am this Friday, traffic has been authorized on the road, although only in the direction of Playa del Reducto towards Puente de las Bolas, which is "where about 80 percent of the daily traffic volume is generated in the accesses to the capital".

From the City Council it is pointed out that the opening has taken place after the works for the installation of road safety signage "according to the reports and projects of the municipal engineer" and that it is the result of "the implementation of the plan to relaunch the center of the capital of Lanzarote".

"Commercial and economic reactivation"

For the new capital mayor, the reopening of the Avenue symbolizes "the beginning of the commercial and economic reactivation of the city center", where it will be supported "in the fabric of small businesses, hotels and the service sector to make this area more attractive to the thousands of visitors who travel to Lanzarote every year, on cruises, or stay mostly in the tourist areas of the other municipalities of the island".

In this regard, the City Council argues that "in Europe it is uncommon to close a city to traffic at a cardinal point where 80% of the traffic that intends to access the center of that city concentrates every day".
