A report from the Local Police that La Voz has had access to states that on August 30, around 200 people attended the Parque Temático square even though that day there was no "tardeo" scheduled by the Arrecife City Council. During this day, three foodtrucks (food and drink stalls) were open with their own music, but despite the large number of people, there were no ambulances or any type of security measures in the area for any incidents.
According to the report, local police officers, who were carrying out a routine patrol in the Avenida Fred Olsen area, observed several foodtrucks open to the public with music coming from their own speakers.
After the agents internally verified that the activity was not authorized, they identified the owners of the open food stalls, who assured the police that they had permission to open.
Given this statement, the agents asked them for the documentation to corroborate it, but they were told that they did not have it and that it was the mayor, Yonathan de León, and a municipal worker who authorized them via WhatsApp that they could open that day. For their part, the Arrecife City Council denies that the mayor has authorized the owners via instant messaging.
Furthermore, the City Council explains that these three foodtrucks have had permission to open for several years, as before these "Tardeos Arrecife" events began, they were located a few meters further away, on the esplanade of the Fairgrounds.
However, the report points out that during this "tardeo," people were using the tables, umbrellas, and tables of this public terrace and that the public restrooms were closed. It also states that there were no fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, or basic life support ambulances in the area.
