Last Friday, the inaugural event of the XIX Fire Prevention Week, organized by the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium in collaboration with the MAPFRE Foundation and the Professional Association of Fire Technicians (APTB), was held in Arrecife.
The presentation, by journalist Laura San José, marked the beginning of a week that will feature around twenty activities aimed at raising awareness among the population about the risks of fire and the importance of knowing how to act in emergencies.
During the presentation, the Car Crash Show simulation was carried out, a training activity that seeks to raise awareness about the importance of following the PAS (Protect, Warn, Help) behaviors in traffic accidents. This simulation involved the participation of the Consortium's firefighters, the Port Police, and the Red Cross, who explained live the strategies and action protocols in road accidents.
The event also included recognition of the firefighting teams that traveled to Valencia to collaborate in the emergency efforts after the passage of the DANA, as well as the firefighting team proclaimed as the best technical team in the world in the vehicle extrication championship, recently held in the Azores.
The day closed with the performance of the dance You Can Help, which is part of the campaign With Your Hands You Can Save a Life, whose objective is to reinforce the knowledge of CPR maneuvers and promote citizen awareness about the importance of acting quickly in emergencies.
Francisco Aparicio, president of the Consortium and Councilor for Security and Emergencies of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, emphasized the relevance of this campaign: “Prevention is the most powerful tool we have to save lives. From the Consortium, we work together with the MAPFRE Foundation and the APTB to strengthen training and provide the population with the necessary knowledge to avoid risks and know how to act in emergency situations. This Prevention Week is an example of how collaboration between institutions and the involvement of our professional teams translate into direct benefits for the safety of all Lanzarote residents.”
A week of activities for everyone's safety
The XIX Fire Prevention Week will continue until November 29 with courses, training days, and simulations in different parts of the island, aimed at different sectors of the population, but with special emphasis on schoolchildren, as the Consortium will receive visits from up to five educational centers.
These activities seek not only to prevent fires and emergencies but also to promote a culture of self-protection and mutual care in Lanzarote society.
