The Consortium of Security, Emergencies, Rescue, Prevention and Fire Extinction of Lanzarote has presented the statistical balance corresponding to the first semester of the year 2026. During the first six months of the fiscal year, the fire department attended a total of 792 services throughout the island, which represents an increase of 33 interventions (+4.34%) compared to the 759 registered in the same period of the year 2025.
The president of the Consortium of Security and Emergencies of Lanzarote, Francisco J. Aparicio, assured that this increase in actions "reflects the permanent operability of our firefighters and the trust that citizens place in this service 24 hours a day".
By type of emergency, technical assistance led the Consortium's activity with 195 actions (representing 25% of the total), closely followed by firefighting efforts, which totaled 178 services (22%).
In the field of rescue, the island personnel carried out 79 rescues, of which 29 were linked to animals and 25 to hikers located mainly in the municipalities of Yaiza and Tinajo. Likewise, 74 preventive standby services, 52 interventions in traffic accidents, and 41 home lock-outs were recorded.
In the area of aquatic rescue, the official statistics confirm that during this first semester there were two deaths by drowning on the island.
Substantial decrease in container fires
In the geographical distribution of services, Arrecife accounted for the main volume of operations with 327 interventions (41% of the island total). They were followed in activity by the municipalities of Yaiza with 111 services, Teguise with 104, Tías with 82, San Bartolomé with 70, Haría and Tinajo with 36 actions each, and the island of La Graciosa, where commissioned personnel acted on 26 occasions.
One of the most significant figures in the semi-annual report is the notable reduction in vandalism against urban furniture. Fires in containers fell drastically to 22 interventions, compared to the 37 incidents of this nature recorded in the first semester of 2025 and the 51 registered in 2024.
In contrast, vehicle fires experienced a slight increase, totaling 35 cases (compared to 30 the previous year), of which 17 took place in Arrecife.
Attending to the origin of the logistical deployment, the Central Park of Arrecife assumed the main load with 584 interventions carried out, while the Southern Park covered 182 emergencies and the contingent stationed in La Graciosa responded to 26 incidents.
