Representatives of the Yaiza City Council and the Cabildo of Lanzarote held a first organizational meeting this Wednesday in Yaiza for the celebration of the Cheese and Goat Fair with two novelties compared to previous editions.
On the one hand, its location in a spacious and easily accessible place, such as the Plaza de la Alameda de Yaiza, the town's main square, proposed by the mayor Óscar Noda, and its celebration in three days instead of two, the afternoon of Friday, May 2, Saturday, May 3 throughout the day, and Sunday, May 4 as the closing day of the fair.
After the meeting attended by Óscar Noda, the island councilor of Economic Promotion, Nori Machín, municipal technicians and those of the First Island Corporation, the southern mayor declared that "we are resuming this gastronomic meeting in support of the primary sector that is preceded by the success of seven editions, the last one in 2019." Yaiza proposed the change from Playa Blanca to Yaiza "to offer a much more comfortable and conditioned location for the sales stands and visitors, where people can move without stumbling and drivers find greater parking facilities, these are two determining factors in the decision to visit and stay at the fair."
Óscar Noda recalled that "in any case, Yaiza is only eleven kilometers from Playa Blanca and our tourist center hosts a large part of the leisure and sports events offer throughout the year. Now in March we have the Handbike and the Carnival there. The Cheese and Goat Fair adds to other initiatives to support the primary sector such as the Uga Livestock Fair with specific dates of April 25, 26 and 27."
For her part, Nori Machín highlighted the importance of the fair as "an exceptional showcase for our local farmers and producers, which will not only promote the commercialization of cheeses and other goat-derived products, but will also value the effort of those who keep our primary sector alive." The Councilor for Economic Promotion also stressed that "from the Cabildo we continue to bet on events that strengthen the local economy and promote the consumption of our products, which are fundamental for the sustainability of Lanzarote."
The mayor of Yaiza thanks the island Cabildo for the inter-administrative cooperation that allows the celebration of the Cheese and Goat Fair, specifically, the Cabildo makes effective a subsidy of 154,000 euros and the City Council deploys all the logistical equipment that its assembly and development demand. The municipality will once again experience in 2025 this meeting rich in flavors, smells, colors and textures that integrates and entertains.
