The Lanzarote Cheese and Goat Fair returns and comes loaded with activities on Saturday 30, Canary Islands Day, and Sunday 31 May, in the Plaza de la Alameda.
The large square of the town of Yaiza has been chosen for this occasion as a meeting point with flavor, where Lanzarote residents and tourists will be able to live exquisite experiences in an atmosphere animated by folk groups and rock bands, and of course, the good work of the Island's cheese dairies and the offer of tapas, tastings and samplings, which comes accompanied by culinary demonstrations, children's gastronomic workshops and the playroom service for the little ones. The complete program is published on the front page of www.yaiza.es
The Yaiza City Council spearheads the organization of the fair with the collaboration of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, through the Economic Promotion Area directed by Nori Machín, and the support of the Association of Artisan Cheese Dairies of Lanzarote (Aqual). The southern mayor, Óscar Noda, and the president of Aqual, Omar Viña, offered this Tuesday details of the program, pointing out the main objective proposed by the entities committed to the celebration of this fair, which is none other than to make visible the progress and innovation of the primary sector and promote cheese consumption by valuing the excellent quality of Lanzarote products made with goat's milk.
“The Plaza de la Alameda is a spacious and accessible place, where visitors can move with absolute comfort, where exhibitors have no space problems and complementary activities have comfortable areas for everyone to enjoy at leisure,” stressed the mayor of Yaiza.
For his part, Omar Viña called on public administrations and the general public "to continue supporting fairs like this and other activities promoting the primary sector. The cheese dairies make a great effort to offer quality products, so we invite consumers to buy Lanzarote cheeses. It is the best way to support the local economy”. Finca de Uga and Rubicón from the municipality of Yaiza, El Faro de Teguise and Flor de Luz from San Bartolomé, are cheese dairies that confirm their participation in the fair.
So that no one stays home, the fair's surroundings offer a large inclusive children's park that Yaiza has just inaugurated and parking areas, such as the esplanade annexed to the Plaza de los Remedios, which allow quick and safe access.
Varied Program
Although the fair opens on Saturday the 30th at ten in the morning, a first taste is already scheduled for Friday afternoon, courtesy of the humor of Carmen Rosa and Chano and the music of Teguey. On Saturday, the Aqual cheese tastings begin, always remembering the figure of the master cheesemaker Tito González Medina (R.I.P.), precursor of these popular activities in Yaiza, show cooking by the Kamezi restaurant, children's workshops and the performance of up to four parranda groups.
On the occasion of Canary Islands Day, Yaiza will hold the institutional event, at twelve noon, in the same Plaza de la Alameda.
On Sunday, the tastings continue and it is also the turn of the show cooking from the restaurants Primario and Brisa Marina. The fair hosts on this day the rock music of the groups Delorean and Los Lola and the storytelling session for adults ‘Tell me a cheese’ with the narrator Isabel Cabrera. The music doesn't stop and the group Sin Cobertura and the parrandada Malpeis will also perform. Yaiza encourages families to enjoy the Cheese and Goat Fair.
