The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, received councilor Sebastián Franquis this Monday to present, together with Astrid Pérez, the projects for the first two buildings to be erected in the Maneje area, where 201 protected public promotion homes are planned, "the first to be built in Lanzarote in 27 years," the Cabildo clarifies.

"The Housing Department of the Government of the Canary Islands is preparing the projects to build another 172 protected homes on the island in energy-efficient buildings and affordable rent in stressed areas," they inform us.

The Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing, Sebastián Franquis, has informed Dolores today, "of the signing of the resolution that initiates the process of contracting the works to build 134 new protected public promotion homes in the municipality of Arrecife", in order to "comply with the objectives of the Canary Islands Housing Plan 2020-2025 to expand the public housing stock and serve the families of the island registered on the list of applicants".

"19.6 million euros will be invested in these 134 new public homes, forming part of the lot of 201 new houses," he adds.

"They guarantee access to a new life and a better future for dozens of families, many of them in situations of vulnerability"

Corujo has assured that "this is the first of many other initiatives aimed at providing housing for the population." She also stated that "the Government of the Canary Islands is fulfilling its commitment to Lanzarote, thanks to inter-administrative collaboration and the effort, predisposition and work of many people."

She also stressed that measures like this "guarantee access to a new life and a better future for dozens of families, many of them in situations of vulnerability, who have been waiting almost three decades for affordable and quality housing."

In addition, Franquis has made it clear that "in this way, we continue to meet the objectives that we set ourselves with the implementation of the Housing Plan, which has been in execution for two years and three months." "With this project, new promotions will soon be added to the homes we are presenting today," he says, thanking the Cabildo and the Arrecife City Council "for helping us with the transfer of the land needed to build the homes."

The three leaders visited this Monday "the area where the new homes will be built, which will be distributed in two adjoining buildings of 67 properties each." The files for these first two buildings "are in the process of validation by the Intervention area of the Government of the Canary Islands and it is expected that their bidding will begin this month with the aim that the works are underway next summer," they argue from the Consistory. "The third building, also with 67 homes and with which the lot of 201 is completed, is expected to be put out to tender in June," they point out.

"The homes could be finished and ready to be delivered in the spring of 2025"

They emphasize that "the construction of each of the buildings will cost around 10 million euros and the plots where each one will be built will be 2,540 square meters." In addition, they commented that "it is estimated that the duration will be 20 months, so the homes could be finished and ready to be delivered in the spring of 2025."

They anticipate that "10% of the new homes will have one bedroom, 20% will have two bedrooms, 60% will have three bedrooms, and another 10% will have four bedrooms. "Within the quotas of two and three bedrooms there are 6 homes for people with reduced mobility and 3 supervised homes with 5 bedrooms." In addition, all homes have a parking space and a storage room, they comment.

Councilor Franquis has announced that "they have projects to build another 172 protected homes in the coming months." A program that "has European funding from Line 6 of the Next Generation funds, funds for which the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands has been a pioneer in signing its transfer and executing them," he advances. These homes are located in the municipalities of Yaiza (126), and in Arrecife (46), on land ceded by the Cabildo.

"The 100 homes that Visocan plans to build will also be added"

For this reason, they emphasize that "we are now starting a process with the goal of building around 480 new homes in Lanzarote", taking into account that "the 100 homes that the public company Visocan plans to build here, in this area of Maneje, will also be added".

He has also reported on the aid that the Department has given to families with fewer resources so that they can access housing with "an investment of 2,680,486 euros." "This money has been distributed mainly through the Youth Rental Voucher, which is already being received by 268 young people from Lanzarote," he reaffirms. "This is a monthly aid of 250 euros that is paid for 24 months to promote their emancipation."
