The Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands has launched the concession and operation of the cafeteria of the César Manrique educational center in Lanzarote. The estimated value for the tender of 20 services in various cafeterias in the Canary Islands is 6.4 million euros.

Among the novelties of these tenders are improvements related to the prioritization of organic, seasonal and local products, and the establishment of job stability for the personnel necessary to serve students and teachers.

This contracting will be carried out through an open award procedure and will be divided into 20 lots, of which lots 4, 7, 9 and 10 are reserved for integration companies and special employment centers of social initiative.

The deadline for submitting offers on the Public Sector Procurement Platform ends at 3:00 p.m. on June 12, while the execution period for these contracts will be three years.

The Ministry of Education has prioritized social and educational needs in this service concession. Specifically, the management and operation of the cafeterias of the secondary education institutes (IES) Arguineguín, Doramas, Arucas-Domingo Rivero, Cairasco de Figueroa, Feria del Atlántico and Faro de Maspalomas are tendered in Gran Canaria. In Tenerife, the Bethencourt y Molina Compulsory Education Center (CEO) and the IES Lucas Martín Espino, Las Veredillas and Agustín de Bethencourt.

In La Palma, the Integrated Vocational Training Center (CIFP) Virgen de las Nieves, as well as the IES Luis Cobiella Cuevas, Eusebio Barreto Lorenzo and Cándido Marante Expósito are put out to tender. These centers are joined by the IES San Sebastián de La Gomera on the island of the same name, Garoé in El Hierro, César Manrique in Lanzarote and Corralejo in Fuerteventura.

The operation of the cafeteria is understood as a complementary service to the public education service. The companies that opt for this tender will be responsible for the maintenance of the premises, the facilities and the equipment, in addition to the supplies and the hiring of the personnel necessary for the development of the activity.

In this sense, teachers, students, parents of students, socio-educational service personnel, as well as people who come to the centers will be the recipients of these services.

One of the most relevant aspects for the award of this contract is, according to Education, the introduction of organic food, products that have a lower environmental impact and a greater social impact. This follows all the recommendations of the Ministries of Health and Education in terms of instilling healthy eating habits.

Likewise, the Ministry led by Poli Suárez favors the promotion of job stability in the execution of these contracts, in line with the provisions of the 2030 Agenda to avoid precariousness and instability in the Canarian labor market.
