The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has announced that the Maneje neighborhood will have "a new sports and recreational park on a plot with more than 47,000 square meters of surface area" in this term. Next to this green area, the first 201 social housing units to be built in Lanzarote after nearly 30 years without public housing are being built. In this neighborhood, the Arrecife City Council has ceded land to build up to 400 public housing units.
The Arrecife City Council, as announced by the mayor, has launched the tender to transform the urban park of Maneje into a large green lung with new sports courts, a children's area, a skate park, a cafeteria and a picnic area, among the new uses and facilities that will be created in this area of the capital of Lanzarote.
The Municipal Government, led by Mayor Yonathan de León, "is working to ensure that during this term the neighborhoods of Arrecife improve and increase their sports facilities during this term." This new sports and recreational park in Maneje, whose project tender is already published on the Public Sector Procurement Platform, joins the new sports constructions awarded that will go in the neighborhoods of San Francisco Javier, Titerroy, AltaVista, and soon in the areas of Valterra, Los Alonso, and El Lomo, with the announced new multipurpose sports hall and wrestling ground next to the municipal swimming pools.
Yonathan de León has advanced that "this neighborhood of the capital will add in these next five years about 3,000 new residents, with a high infant and youth population, who will move to live in public housing, and other promotional protected residential, planned in Maneje and its surroundings".
Maneje, a large urban sports and recreational park for the 21st century
The Councilor for Sports, Eli Merino, who has been in the area where these new municipal facilities will be built, has remarked that "Maneje will join the neighborhoods of Arrecife where they will have new multipurpose sports facilities in this term. Until now, Maneje - a neighborhood in demographic expansion - lacked sports areas and this project covers this deficiency".
Eli Merino, from whose department this tender is called, has detailed that "with this new tender is planned the "service of drafting the Project of reform of the Urban Park of Maneje, through a project contest procedure according to article 185.4 of the Law on Public Sector Contracts".
Among the new sports uses that will have this great green lung of Maneje, has emphasized the mayor responsible for Sports, is planned the construction of several sports courts, a multi-adventure climbing wall, a skate park, calisthenics area, cafeteria, picnic area and bleachers for outdoor events, among other areas that allow the city of Arrecife to become the capital of sports. Interested firms have until December 16 to submit to this new tender to increase sports and recreational spaces in the neighborhoods.
A park since 2012 without life or citizen use
Yonathan de León has remarked that "this project for the Maneje park, built in 2012, is part of the municipal plan to recover and give life to the public spaces of the city. With this new project, Arrecife will recover in this term the other two large parks that the city currently has: Parque José Ramírez Cerdá and Parque Temático".
Both have approved technical projects, and with funding, whose tender is still waiting for the mandatory approval of Coasts so that the works can begin. Both green spaces, located on the maritime front of Arrecife, are built on land reclaimed from the sea. Therefore, it is necessary to have the approval of Coasts for the execution of these works of renovation and urban transformation.
The City Council of Arrecife plans to invest, in this term, about 15 million euros in the transformation and modernization of the three major parks of the city: Parque José Ramírez Cerdá, Parque Temático, next to the beach of El Reducto, to which is added the new sports and recreational facilities in Maneje, and other improvements in the network of parks throughout the neighborhoods of Arrecife.
The Municipal Park of Maneje opened on November 22, 2012. In total, 47,666 square meters of surface area destined for free space, located between the streets Jarreta, Iguadén and Chupaderos. A space that will now be modernized with the renovation and construction of new equipment, which will be reflected in this new project called.
