18 people from the municipality of Tías, who last year were unemployed due to the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, have had the opportunity to work for 8 and 9 months for the Tías City Council through the New Employment Opportunities NOE-COVID program, which ends this September and has been co-financed by the Canary Islands European Social Fund 2014/2020 Operational Program.
The Tías City Council, governed by PSOE, Lanzarote Avanza (LAVA) and Lanzarote en Pie-Sí Podemos, joined at the end of 2020 the subsidy procedure called by the Canarian Employment Service (SCE) for the development of the NOE-COVID program through the project "Tías reactivates employment 2020".
This program has allowed the City Council to hire social workers, administrative assistants, industrial technical engineer, agricultural technical engineer, environmental technical engineer, computer systems technical engineer, beach surveillance personnel and general cleaning personnel.
These people have been able to reinforce municipal services in different departments, such as New Technologies, Tourism and Beaches, Social Services, Roads and Works, Administration or Culture, among others.
The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, has expressed his satisfaction "for having given a job response to unemployed people who were affected by the economic crisis caused by the pandemic". "We are with the people who need to work and we try to guide them so that they join the labor market in the best possible conditions," he added.
In addition, he congratulated the 18 workers "for their involvement and almost immediate adaptation to the tasks they have been assigned", while wishing them "a good labor future."
The budget for this agreement amounted to 301,518.03 euros. The Canary Islands Government, through the European Social Fund, financed 85% of this amount, 292,431.75 euros, and the Tías City Council contributed the remaining 9,086 euros.
