The Art, Culture and Tourism Centers have put out to tender the restoration works of the Sculpture of Fertility, in the Farmer's House Museum, for a maximum tender amount of 79,798.90 euros, which come from own funds.
The technical report of the contract details both the preliminary works to be developed, which include the preparation of a report, the assembly of scaffolding and the protection of the natural cover of the Peña de Tajaste, where the sculpture erected by César Manrique is located, as well as the specific ones, such as the lifting of the fiber layer, the cleaning and repair of the rusted pieces and letters, the fibering, the cleaning and painting of the entire piece and the restoration of the garden areas.
The counselor of the Entity, Ángel Vázquez, explained that this intervention “responds to the need to repair elements that are degraded by the passage of time and to the commitment we have to preserve and maintain in the best conditions the work that makes us different in the tourist circuits”.
The works must be carried out in a period not exceeding 120 days. During this period, access to the sculpture will be prohibited to the public.
The last intervention of this type on the sculpture took place more than a decade ago.

About the Sculpture of Fertility
The Sculpture of Fertility is a work designed by César Manrique, with the collaboration of Jesús Soto and his entire team, which rises 15 meters above the Peña de Tajaste, in the geographic center of the island, since the end of the sixties of the last century.
Made with water tanks and other elements of disused ships, the skill in the placement of the cubic elements manages to symbolize a person on a pack animal in what constitutes the great tribute of the Lanzarote artist to the men and women of the island's countryside. It is, without a doubt, one of his most emblematic sculptural works and one of the most recognizable iconographic symbols of the island.
