The Government of the Canary Islands launches Canarias se mueve +55, a pioneering program whose main objective is to provide a wide range of benefits to people over 55 years of age residing in the Canary Islands related to mobility and travel, cultural activities and services and products.
To develop the first initiative of the program, the regional Executive and Binter Canarias have joined forces to promote senior mobility. The Ministry of Social Welfare and the airline presented today, at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Government in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a package of trips at special prices aimed at the population over 55 years of age that includes destinations such as Madrid, Asturias or Andalusia.
These vacation packages, which will begin to be offered from September 5 in the travel agencies of the Canary Islands, will include cultural activities, transfers and 24-hour attention to the elderly who participate, in order to provide an enriching experience to the elderly who choose them.
This initiative constitutes one of the multiple actions that the regional Executive is implementing, through the General Directorate of the Elderly and Active Participation, to provide comprehensive care to the elderly population, promote actions that result in an improvement of their quality of life and combat unwanted loneliness.
The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, stressed that this is a "pioneering" program with which we fulfill reaching a segment of the population promoting "the well-being, quality of life and integral health of people over 55 years" in the Canary Islands.
The regional Minister of the area, Candelaria Delgado, pointed out that "this action is part of a program of care and support to the population over 55 years in the Canary Islands, in line with the commitment that the Executive is carrying out in terms of care for this group".
With this, she explained, "we intend to influence prevention policies that improve their quality of life and favor them to face active and healthy aging, while at the same time emphasizing promoting territorial cohesion and strengthening the local economy".
The General Director of the Elderly and Active Participation, Verónica Meseguer, detailed that with this program it is expected that people over 55 years of age can access a variety of activities that improve their well-being from multiple points of view.
The president of Binter, Rodolfo Núñez, explained that this type of actions and programs are part of the company's commitment to ensure that this group enjoys the greatest possible facilities when traveling to the wide network of destinations offered by the airline. It is one more example of Binter's involvement with the Canary Islands and a first step for this program to be expanded in the near future with more places and places to fly to.

The first planned actions include four trips to the Peninsula, which include, in addition to the transfer by plane, excursions, accommodation and meals on a half or full board basis.

To this will be added a second, from December 11 to 14, from Gran Canaria, with additional places from Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
Another of the trips will be to Asturias, from December 14 to 17, from Tenerife, with connections from Gran Canaria, La Palma, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. It is also planned that regular trips and excursions between the islands of the Canary archipelago will be organized soon, both by plane and by boat.
In addition to mobility, the Government of the Canary Islands is working on other actions aimed at promoting the participation of people over 55 in cultural and social activities with special benefits, promoting inclusion and access to the cultural offer of the Canary Islands.
Another line of action focuses on collaboration with companies committed to social responsibility, in order to manage discounts and bonuses on a wide range of products and services for this group.
The initiative also contemplates the development of an inter-island social leisure and tourism program, compatible with the Imserso programs, with the aim of bringing the population residing in the Canary Islands closer to the reality of the rest of the islands and promoting the cohesion of the fragmented territory.
