The Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Autonomous Commission for Environmental Assessment, has favorably reported on 47 projects in the Chinijo Archipelago Natural Park, out of a total of 64 reported in recent months. The rest, a total of 17, have not been favorable "as they cause a transformation of the natural environment and, therefore, the precautionary protection regime has had to be applied".
The regional councilor responsible for the area, José Antonio Valbuena, highlighted “the effort being made by his Department, in coordination with the different administrations involved, to guarantee the protection of spaces of great environmental value, as is the case of the Chinijo Archipelago, and guarantee an effective response to the projects presented by citizens, guaranteeing the speed of procedures for the benefit of the general interest, as well as compliance with legal precepts.”
Of the total number of files analyzed, 40 of them belong to the island of La Graciosa, of which 34 have been reported positively as they do not cause a transformation that conditions the objectives of the Natural Resources Management Plan (PORN). Six initiatives on the eighth island have had to be rejected as they cause a transformation and the aforementioned precautionary protection regime has been applied.
The remaining 24 reports belong to the Famara environment, of which 13 have obtained a favorable report as they do not cause a transformation contrary to the purposes of the PORN of this protected space.
The files submitted to the Environmental Assessment Commission in recent months mainly correspond to projects for the execution of single-family housing buildings, division of farms, conditioning of buildings and installation of self-consumption photovoltaics.
