The Governing Council held this Thursday approved a collaboration agreement between the El Cribo Mental Health Association and the Cabildo of Lanzarote to transfer the use of various spaces of the facilities of the Agricultural Biodiversity Center of Lanzarote (CBAL), such as the greenhouse, a classroom and a plot, with the aim of carrying out the occupational workshops of Agroecology and Nursery.

These workshops are included in the Cribo's Psycho-labor Rehabilitation Program and allow the association's patients to acquire or recover the skills that allow them to achieve greater autonomy and quality of life, as well as better social and labor insertion using as a tool the learning and practice of ecological agriculture.

For the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Ángel Vázquez, "learning those agricultural practices that aim to obtain quality food in a way that respects the space where it is developed, constitutes a job opportunity for those people who attend the agroecology and nursery workshop daily, as well as a way to promote environmentally correct guidelines and train more demanding consumers."

Agreement with AEVAE

On the other hand, the Governing Council also approved the signing of an agreement with AEVAE, the Spanish Association for the Valorization of Agricultural Packaging.

As explained by the institution, this non-profit association was created with the purpose of authorizing and managing a Collective System of Extended Producer Responsibility (SCRAP) for manufacturers, packers and distributors of products for professional agricultural use, which guarantees the collection and traceability for the correct valorization of agricultural packaging waste.

As Ángel Vázquez details, thanks to this agreement "we can offer the farmers of the island the possibility of delivering their identified packaging to an authorized collection center in order to develop an effective agricultural packaging waste management system, in legal compliance and sustainability."
