The Cabildo recognizes Sonidos Líquidos for its commitment to sustainability

The Cabildo of Lanzarote has recognised Sonidos Líquidos for its commitment to sustainability, after obtaining the three-star certification and winning the Community Action Award at the A Greener Festival (AGF). Thus, Neftalí Acosta and Yvonne Thiery, heads of Arenao Producciones, have been received by Alberto Aguiar, Culture councillor, after arriving from London, city in which the award ceremony took place.

María Dolores Corujo conveyed through the councillor her congratulations to the festival promoters for “year after year consecrating in the utopian stage of La Geria the celebration of an event that, apart from offering culture, respects one of the most emblematic landscapes of Lanzarote through sustainable and innovative initiatives”. The president highlighted the importance of “cultural events being recognised, in addition to their enormous quality, for their faithful commitment to sustainability”.

The head of the Culture area, Alberto Aguiar, reiterated his congratulations to Sonidos Líquidos, expressing that “initiatives such as those proposed by the festival manage to place Lanzarote as a place with a firm commitment to culture, while at the same time placing respect for the environment in a prominent place”.

"For this reason, A Greener Festival, a prestigious British entity that audits dozens of festivals internationally in terms of sustainability, has not only awarded Sonidos Líquidos with three stars in its certification again, but has also given it the Community Action Award. In such a way that it has positioned it as one of the best European festivals in terms of social inclusion and action for the unity of the community", they point out from the Cabildo.

A consolidated event

Likewise, Sonidos Líquidos is consolidated as one of the references in sustainable festivals in Europe since it is also nominated in the Iberian Festival Awards. On March 11, the gala of these awards will be held, in which it has been selected as one of the ten finalists in the Contribution to Sustainability category, an award that it already won in the 2020 edition, being considered the best festival at Spanish and Portuguese level in said category.

From the festival organisation they assure that the achievement of these recognitions at international level, without a doubt, endorse and reinforce the commitment of Sonidos Líquidos from its beginnings and that encourage to continue in this line, which will already incorporate new proposals in terms of sustainability in all its aspects for this next edition. For those who cannot wait any longer, the first “Experience” will be held on March 26. On this occasion, attendees will be able to vibrate with the music of Lisa and The Lips, in the idyllic space of Casa Museo del Campesino, in San Bartolomé, from 1:00 p.m.

About Sonidos Líquidos

Sonidos Líquidos is a musical and enogastronomic experience in a unique environment in the world and with an exceptional atmosphere. It is recognised for its sustainable practices with the environment and commitment to the community. Its organisation is aware of the fragility of the Lanzarote environment, and specifically of La Geria. For this reason, they understand as a necessity to emphasise taking measures to protect and preserve this special place.

According to its 2017-2021 Sustainability Report, prepared together with MJC Ambiental, some of the most outstanding measures they carry out are: complete elimination of plastic containers; use of the least polluting bus fleet possible; increase in the daytime hours of the festival; use of food grown and/or produced in Lanzarote; collaboration of local projects for the elaboration of merchandising; or measures to reduce sound and light impacts, etc.

In addition, Experiences 2023 creates small-format events in which the original essence of the festival is experienced. These are concerts held on a Sunday at noon with a reduced capacity and in unique spaces of great enogastronomic, tourist and cultural attraction.

A Greener Festival Awards

In 2007 the first A Greener Festival Award was established and, since then, almost 500 events in 5 continents have been evaluated, from 500 to 200,000 attendees of daily capacity. AGF provides the first and only sustainable event certification, which includes on-site assessment and independent verification. Through self-assessment, site visit assessment and post-event analysis in 11 categories, they provide comprehensive and useful analysis, information and credentials for their events' sustainability actions.

The AGF Community Action Award values the ability to connect with the local community and the sense of community within the event. This award recognises those who demonstrate exceptional social inclusion, action for unity and acceptance among people, and positive projects that provide benefit to others beyond the event itself.
