The Popular Party has managed to get its motion approved so that the Cabildo of Lanzarote leads, in coordination and collaboration with the Town Councils of the island and the Government of the Canary Islands, the implementation of different support measures for young people and all those who want to start a business in the agricultural and livestock sector of the island.
The initiative, announced a few days ago by the island president of the PP, Astrid Pérez, has had the favorable vote of all groups with the exception of Vox, which opted for abstention.
The spokesman for the popular party in the Cabildo, Angel Vázquez, defended during the session the need to “end the bureaucratic labyrinth that must be traveled today to start an agricultural or livestock farm”. In this sense, he has advocated for the creation of a “single window” for the primary sector that acts as a “centralized point of information, advice and support for all people who wish to start activities related to the primary sector”.
The motion includes the agreement to establish an Institutional Coordination Protocol between the Cabildo, town councils and the Government of the Canary Islands, which reduces duplication and clearly determines the administrative steps to be followed by entrepreneurs, as well as a program to promote financial aid and training, especially among young people.
Vázquez stressed that “the only way to not continue losing farmland or livestock farms on the island is with a firm commitment from all administrations and with concrete actions that facilitate generational change and guarantee the development of the activity and the preservation of the landscape”.
The popular spokesman thanked the support of the different groups as well as the contributions made to the initial proposal.
