The Cabildo of Lanzarote submits for consultation to the affected Public Administrations and interested parties the Initial Strategic Document of the Special Plan for the Protected Landscape of La Geria, as well as the draft, for a period of 45 business days. This document will be available on the institutional website and in the Cabildo's offices for consultation and receipt of allegations.
The President of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, has stated that "this is a fundamental step to guarantee the protection of a unique landscape, which combines natural, cultural and agricultural values. Our commitment is to ensure the balance between the conservation and sustainable development of this unique and unrepeatable space built by the conejero farmer".
The Councilor for Territorial Planning and Policy, Jesús Machín Tavío, has stressed that the Special Plan will "organize and protect an environment that is a symbol of our island identity." As he explained, "the plan includes measures that address both the management of natural resources and the preservation of the agricultural and cultural heritage of La Geria."
Machín has also stressed that the public exhibition of this document is an opportunity for citizens and stakeholders to contribute their vision and suggestions. "We want this Plan to be the result of consensus and reflect the real needs of our territory," he said.
A key step in the environmental management of Lanzarote
The exposure for consultation of the affected Public Administrations and interested parties of the Initial Strategic Document of the Special Plan for the Protected Landscape of La Geria "occurs in record time this term and has found special support in the recovery of powers in environmental assessment for Lanzarote and La Graciosa that has been led by the current island government".
The Environmental Assessment Body of Lanzarote, which a few days ago gave the green light to the publication of the plan, has consolidated the island's ability to manage this type of territorial and environmental planning processes autonomously and agilely.
Finally, President Oswaldo Betancort recalled that one of the main objectives of his mandate is to guarantee legal certainty in all pending territorial planning processes. "We are working rigorously to avoid the mistakes of the past and ensure that this Plan is an effective and legally sound tool," he said.
From the Territorial Planning Area, they emphasize that this Special Plan includes key actions to preserve biodiversity, regulate land use and promote sustainable economic activities in the Protected Landscape of La Geria.
