The Cabildo of Lanzarote has confirmed that "the removal actions have already been completed" of all the marine cages that were located in the area of Playa Quemada, located in the municipality of Yaiza.
In this sense, María Dolores Corujo, explained that last March they "began with the removal of the last nine, of the more than 50 that were in this coastal area".
Likewise, Corujo highlighted that, "as we promised, we have managed to ensure that the coasts of Lanzarote are now safe from the consequences of aquaculture exploitation."
"We are not against it, as is logical, however, we cannot allow the island to suffer the degradation that the cages entail for our coastline and for biodiversity," he added.
Finally, Dolores Corujo recalled the promise made to the citizens that "not only will we finish removing the marine cages in Playa Quemada, but these will not be installed in any area of Lanzarote."
